Afghan officials discussed solutions to the problems of the Lapis Lazuli Corridor

Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Ashgabat hosted a video conference between the relevant Ministries and departments of Afghanistan to review mechanisms for effective use of the Lapis Lazuli Corridor and possibilities of implementation of commitments which has been made between Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan in the index of tripartite format.

Mr. Khan Wali Khan Basharmal, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Turkmenistan highlighted the importance of the Lapis Lazuli Corridor for strengthening economic, trade, transport, and transit cooperation for Afghanistan, member states of the Lapis Lazuli Corridor and the region, hence Afghanistan can connect Central Asia and the Caucasus to South Asia through this corridor.

The meeting moderator Mr. Ahmad Tariq Noorzadeh, counselor of the Embassy, Deputy Minister of Transport and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Da Afghanistan Bank, and the Federation of Chambers of Afghanistan discussed and exchanged views on the establishment of the logistics center, port system synchronization, exchange of customs information, challenges related to the transportation and reduction of costs of cargos through the Lapis Lazuli Corridor.
