KABUL – Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Mr. Idrees Zaman met with the Ambassador of Turkmenistan Mr. Ovezov Hoja Sapargeldiyewich this afternoon.
The meeting focused on bilateral ties and issues of mutual interest.
The Turkmen Ambassador congratulated the Deputy Foreign Minister on the assumption of new office and thanked him for his congratulatory message to his Turkmen counterpart.
At the outset, Ambassador Sapargeldiyewich briefed Deputy Minister Zaman on the mission’s activities, focusing on the current ones, including the preparations underway for the Afghan President’s visit to Ashgabat in February and the finalization of documents to be signed during the visit, namely bilateral instruments involving energy supply to Jawzjan districts and increase in power supply to Herat.
He also assured the Deputy Foreign Minister of the smooth work on TAP 500.
The Deputy Foreign Minister briefed the Turkmen Ambassador of the upcoming Kabul Process meeting informing him of the delay in convening the event due to the Afghan President’s important visit to Turkmenistan. He hoped for further strengthened ties between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan with the said important visit.
The two sides also exchanged views on transit routes and some other bilateral arrangements.
The Turkmen Ambassador reiterated his country’s support of an Afghan led and Afghan owned peace process which he regarded as important for the entire region.
