Afghanistan’s famous wicket-keeper and batsman Mohammad Shahzad has been recognized as ICC Associate and Affiliate Cricketer of the Year.
He is the first Afghan player to win the award which is meant to recognize efforts of players outside the 10 Test nations.
Shahzad was honoured by the leading world cricket body for finishing as the leading ODI run-scorer with 699 runs in 16 one-day matches.
He has also scored 301 runs in four innings of three ICC Intercontinental Cup first-class matches and also contributed 533 runs in 17 T20 internationals.
Indian bowler Ravichandran Ashwin received ICC Cricketer of the Year Award while Pakistan’s Misbah-ul-Haq won ICC Spirit of Cricket Award.
