President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with Colonel General Berdiyev Yaylym Yagmyrovich, Minister for Defense & Secretary of National Security Council of Turkmenistan

Kabul: Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with Colonel General Berdiyev Yaylym Yagmyrovich, Minister for Defense & Secretary of National Security Council of Turkmenistan who arrived in Kabul at the head of a high-ranking delegation.

Turkmenistan’s defense minister thanked the Afghan President for the meeting and delivered good wishes of H.E. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov president of Turkmenistan and expressed his satisfaction with his visit to Afghanistan.

President Ghani also welcomed the Turkmen Defense Minister and his delegation, urging him to present the goodwill of the government and the people of Afghanistan to H.E. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov President of Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen Defense Minister, who previously met with the Afghan delegation in Herat Province about the readiness to open the gas pipeline project, presented a detailed report to the Afghan President.

President Ghani congratulated the Afghan and Turkmen delegations and said: “Necessary preparations are made for the launch of the TAPI Pipeline in Herat Province. I and the people of I.R. Afghanistan are eager to warmly welcome my brother H.E. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov the president of Turkmenistan to Afghanistan.

President Ghani emphasized that the transit routes for the TAPI project from Herat Province and the other areas where the pipeline will be transited are identified and the Afghan Government is ready to work on the completion of the mentioned project.

President Ghani said: The opening of the project in Herat Province is a huge step, and the extension of this project to Pakistan and India through Afghanistan will make a significant difference in the field of regional cooperation.

Afghan President said that discussions for transmission of the 500 kV line from Turkmenistan to Pakistan through Afghanistan are done between the two countries.

Afghan Government beside the TAPI pipeline is also ready to implement Fiber Optic project as well.

Ensuring the security of the borders of I.R. Afghanistan and Turkmenistan President Ghani said: Border security is in our top priorities and there has been an inclusive effort made in this area.

President Ghani said that security of Aqina and Turghundi Railway lines are in the priority of the government and I thank the president of Turkmenistan for his special attention for the completion and construction of the Turkmenistan- Turghundi Railway.

He added: The districts of Qarqin, Khamaab of Jawzjan and Badghis provinces will benefit from Turkmenistan’s imported electricity.

Afghan president emphasized that Afghanistan and Turkmenistan have laid the foundations of a long-term partnership in a variety of fields, which will be expanded every day.

In return, the Turkmen Defense Minister, while appreciating the goodwill of the Afghan President, assured that his country is well prepared for the launch of the TAPI pipeline in Afghanistan.

He said that the regular meetings of the delegations will continue to coordinate further in this regard.
