H.E. Salahuddin Rabbani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan met with H.E Raşit Meredov Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan who visited Kabul to participate in the fourth meeting of the Joint Commission on Security Cooperation Between I.R. Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.
During the meeting both the Foreign Ministers discussed further expansion of Trade – Economic, Cultural and humanitarian activities and the need to promote trade exchange between I.R. Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.
Both Foreign Ministers discussed about the preparations of the Official Visit of the President of I.R. Afghanistan to Turkmenistan. They also exchanged views about the mutually beneficial documents that will be signed during the visit.
Then the Fourth Meeting of the Joint Commission on Security between I.R. Afghanistan and Turkmenistan with the presence of high level delegations from relevant authorities was held.
In this meeting, the importance of implementation and security measures of the Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan – India Gas Pipeline (TAPI), Lapis Lazuli Trade and Transit Corridor, Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Tajikistan Railway, transit of electricity from Turkmenistan to Pakistan via Afghanistan and other infrastructural projects that are not only beneficial for Afghanistan and Turkmenistan but for the whole region, were discussed.
Both sides agreed on providing security for major economic projects between the two countries and to cooperate in strengthening border security.
The Ministers agreed to hold the next meeting of the Commission on the first half of 2018 in Ashgabat. The exact dates of the meeting will be discussed later via diplomatic channels.
It is worth mentioning that the Joint Commission on Security Cooperation between I.R. Afghanistan and Turkmenistan was held in 2013 to further strengthen political dialogues.
The previous three meetings of the above mentioned Joint Commission were held in Ashgabat and Serhedabat of Turkmenistan and Herat Province of I.R. Afghanistan.
