April 25, 2016 Kabul- Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Salahuddin Rabbani met with the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan H.E. Raşit Meredow this afternoon. At the outset, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan described Afghanistan and Turkmenistan’s friendly relations and bilateral cooperation excellent and emphasized over the need of frequent meetings and consultation between the high-ranking officials of the two countries for furthering these relations and cooperation on bilateral, regional as well as international levels.
Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan added that there are many opportunities for furthering bilateral cooperation between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan and Turkmenistan is interested and stands ready to increase bilateral cooperation in political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and training spheres with Afghanistan.
While pointing to religious, cultural, geographical, economic and political connections between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan expressed that extending cooperation with friendly Turkmenistan on bilateral, regional and international levels is from the priorities of Afghanistan.
During the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs thanked the valuable cooperation of Turkmenistan such as providing education scholarship to Afghan students in railway, oil and gas, and electrical engineering and added that bilateral trade of Afghanistan with Turkmenistan especially exporting Afghan products to Turkmenistan such as marble, require improvement.
Developments regarding TAPI project, expanding bilateral trade and the need for peace, stability and security in the region were also discussed during the meeting.
