KABUL – A Specialized Symposium titled “Dialogue on the Rights of the Child and Optional Protocols of the Convention on the Rights of the Child”, chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Idrees Zaman was held at Darwazi Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today. The event was attended by government officials, university professors, child rights activists, members of the civil society and students.
At the outset, Deputy Foreign Minister Zaman welcomed the participants and stated that this symposium, held today at the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was a good opportunity for all scholars and experts who study and conduct research in the field of child’s rights and for those in the government and non-government institutions engaged directly or indirectly with children and their human rights issues in their daily activities.
He also added that the Foreign Ministry is the coordinating body of reporting to all international conventions Afghanistan has signed. Reporting to optional protocols of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is part of the government’s commitments towards its people as well as the United Nations. This report is in the final stage of finalization and is soon due to be submitted to the relevant authorities.
It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has developed reports on the implementation of four international human rights instruments this year that will be submitted to the UN.
