Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Cooperation Adela Raz met with Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, Mr. H. Vepa on the sidelines of RECCA’s Academic Forum and discussed with him issues of bilateral interest.
Pointing out to the historic friendly relations between Kabul and Ashgabat, the two sides expressed their satisfaction over the level of growth of the two countries’ bilateral ties and economic and commercial transactions. The balance of trade exchanges between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan has recently been witness to a considerable growth. During the meeting, Ms. Raz and Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan put emphasis on further expansion of trade and seeking areas of new cooperation between Kabul and Ashgabat in terms of utilization of railroads, establishing relations among businessmen and traders and continued follow up of commitments via joint economic-commercial cooperation commissions.
Calling economic cooperation and integration as a common priority for their governments, Ms. Raz and her Turkmen counterpart discussed in details the preparation for holding a successful Seventh Regional Economic Cooperation Conference of RECCA which is to be held from 14 – 15 November, 2017 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
The Turkmen side assured the Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister of its full readiness for hosting the aforesaid Conference in the best possible way describing it as one of the most important priorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Meanwhile, Ms. Raz expressed her appreciation for what she called great efforts of a friendly country with regards to RECCA’s next Conference. The Afghan and Turkmen Deputy Foreign Ministers also reviewed the technical and content preparations for the ministers’ meetings and other sessions due to be held on the sidelines of the Conference, and agreed to establish joint units of cooperation and coordination to make the Seventh Regional Economic Cooperation Conference of RECCA a great success.
During the meeting, Turkmenistan expressed interest in opening its markets for Afghanistan’s agricultural products as well as exporting them to other regional countries via the Turkmen territories. In this respect, the two sides highlighted the importance of RECCA’s next meeting within which a two day commercial forum and exhibition for the Afghan and regional countries’ products is going to be held in Ashgabat.
